2 -  General Category / General Talk / Thanks to the Guys respecting the trail and the fresh groom!

Started by TRRPres - Last post by TRRPres on: February 27, 2010, 05:15:12 PM

On my grooming run last night on C5B just South of the TSI while stopped to cut a fallen overhanging tree off the trail two riders pulled up and stopped to say hi. During the conversation I asked them to please take it easy on the trail and please keep off the freshly groomed side of the trail if at all possible since it was a little warm out and would take a while to set-up. They promised they would try. Contrary to my skepticism on my return trip they had ridden to the right of the groomed side of the trail where ever humanly possible.

If the two guys are on here, the leader on a 2010 TNT and the second guy on a Fusion Dragon, I want to thank you for your consideraation and attempts to preserve the groom and prolong the trail.

Not to worry though in driving by several road crossings today thier efforts were for nothing.  The all to common inconsiderate, the trail is here for my sole enjoyment riders have shown thier true colors. Spinning dirt from the shoulder of the road into the trail and probably down to dirt in the corners.

One other thing, can someone please tell me why the concept of crossing a road with the stop sign on your right (or crossing to the left of the stop sign) is such a hard concept to grasp??? I mean how many times when your driving on the road is the stop sign between you and oncoming traffic???? We put these signs out because in most cases the land owner wants us to go in a certain place on thier property, not wherever everyone feels like going!!!!! Sometimes I think there is some port in snowmobile helmets that sucks peoples brains out of thier head when they put them on!!!!!

Are people that dumb? YES THEY ARE. Peple are still riding through the field along Wilson Creek! Maybe they cant read  or they just dont care. People like this are going to get more of our trail system shut down. It is hard enough to keep the trails open as most of you know. What can we do to let everyone know how much work goes into the trail system? Any Ideas?

The club ride is on for tomorrow 2/28/10. The new tentative plan is to meet at the Moose in Owego at 10:00 am for people in the area or people that want to trailer and drop off there. We are then planning to ride C5B to Berkshire and possibly go to Warners cabin in Berkshire for breakfast/brunch. We can decide from there what the next step will be. This will be a family type ride with kids and passengers welcome (not a snowcross event). People can meet up with us where ever it is convienient for them along the trail. Contact an officer for more details.  http://www.tiogaridgerunners.com/club_officers.htm

When you're riding your snowmobile, and you look down and see dirt, it's probably a sign that you shouldn't be riding.

The trail that crosses Davis Hollow and runs along Wilson Creek is closed from Davis Hollow to the bridge.    People were riding this past weekend on dirt, and the landowner pulled the signs up.    Maybe we'll get it back next year.   Until then we ride the road.

There's probably 5" - 6" of fresh snow on the hills around Owego.     Enough to ride on, but watch out for ruts, rocks and other debris in the trail as there's not a lot of snow to cover things up.

February Weather, Looking Like December All Over Again
Posted 2010-01-22

By Carly Porter
AccuWeather.comMuch of the U.S. should prepare for another round of severe cold and snowy weather, similar to the recent "December to Remember," but focused farther east.

AccuWeather.com Expert Senior Meteorologist and Long-Range Forecaster Joe Bastardi sees a "top-ten cold February" in store for much of the U.S., compared to the last 50 years.

"I believe the physical drivers are all there for a major cold month, much like this December was," Bastardi said.

He added that the rally in natural gas prices of late may be attributed to other forecasters coming around to his thinking.

Bastardi suggests that temperatures will be well-below normal for much of the nation in February, with the center of the cold hovering over the Tennessee-Ohio Valley into the Central Appalachians, extending back through the Plains and perhaps the Great Basin.

An active southern storm track will contribute to above-normal snowfall in many areas that experienced above-normal snowfall in December. Parts of Florida could even have another shot at snow.

Bastardi said this February will rival the weather seen in previous Februaries known for their severity.

"It may very well turn into a blend of February '07 and February '03, which were the most extreme Februarys we've had in the last 15 years," said Bastardi. Joe believes that the legendary February of 1958 is not beyond reach.

The demand for heating oil may surge again as the cold weather returns and lingers.

"This upcoming cold, like December, will slap you in the face and kick you in the wallet," Bastardi said.
